Easter, or Resurrection Day, is one of the hallmark holidays for believers. Because of its significance, many Christians use the occasion to revisit essential Biblical verses that highlight the most powerful points of the story. Here are three of the most meaningful Easter scriptures.
1. Philippians 2:8
“And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death — even death on a cross!”
In Philippians 2:8, the verse points out that although Jesus had the power to do whatever he wanted to, he was obedient to God’s command. Jesus made the sacrificial choice. He took on human pain knowing he would suffer an excruciating death sentence in order to pay for our sins.
2. Matthew 28: 5-6
“The angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.”
In Matthew 28:5-6, the author details the amazing moment after Jesus is resurrected. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary visit the tomb. Soon after, they learn that Jesus has fulfilled the promise that He would rise after His death; His body was not there.
3. Romans 10:9
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Romans 10:9 shares the simple instruction to eternal life. Jesus paved the path to heaven because He gave his life on Resurrection Day. Therefore, this an important Easter scripture. Centuries later, new believers can refer back to this scripture to learn exactly what to do to be saved.
These three Easter scriptures, along with many others, beautifully describe the gravity of Jesus’ love for us. So much so, that He traded His life for our sins. He made the ultimate sacrifice. Take this Easter as an opportunity to honor and celebrate Him. Honor Him by studying the story of his resurrection and proudly spreading the good news.
